Competition winners

At the beginning of the year we challenged the young people of Canterbury to tell us their ideas for the best playground in the world, to be built in Christchurch’s new central city.

The BNZ Amazing Place Playground Competition was open to all schools and early childhood education services in Canterbury and involved children from early childhood to year 6.

What an extraordinarily amazing competition it has been!

Over 6,000 children took part and we received close to 300 entries from throughout the region. The judges were incredibly impressed by the high calibre of entries and the hundreds of imaginative ideas that the children came up with. Thanks to all the children who contributed, the designers of the actual playground will have access to lots of innovative ideas to provide inspiration.

The Prime Minister, Rt Hon John Key presented the top awards at a special ceremony on Thursday 23 May 2013.

This video was filmed while the teams were designing and making their entries. It features the children talking about their thoughts and processes they went through while designing their amazing place.

Here is a list of all the prize winners

We really appreciate the hard work that the young people and their teachers put into the competition and their valuable contribution toward making Christchurch amazing.
